Generous shoppers raise more than £12,400 for Poppy Appeal

Kind-hearted shoppers in The Beacon have raised more than £12,400 for this year’s Poppy Appeal. Volunteers from the Royal British Legion were in the Centre for 15 days after launching the Poppy Appeal at the end of October with a Remembrance March and salute from the combined army, RAF, Marine and Sea and Boys’ Brigade cadets. This year, the Centre commemorated the centenary of the end of World War 1 with a series of special events including a Memorial Garden featuring 1,259 crosses to represent every person named on the Eastbourne War Memorial, who died during the conflict. David Easton, from the Royal British Legion, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all customers of The Beacon for their amazing support this year that raised £12,400.78. Every penny raised supports our armed forces’ community past and present.”
