Spare coins from shoppers raises £2,200 for Children with Cancer Fund

Spare coins thrown into The Beacon’s wishing well over Christmas have raised £2,200 for the Children with Cancer Fund. The wishing well was part of the festive display in the Centre and every year a different charity is chosen to benefit from the generosity of shoppers. Children with Cancer Fund, based in Polegate, was formed in 1998 and is run by a small group of friendly staff and volunteers. The aim of the charity is to grant wishes to children up to the age of 18, and their families, who have, or have had, cancer and who primarily live in East Sussex, Brighton and Hove. Wishes can be practical, medical or fun and made to individual families as well as supporting a group together by giving them quality family times. Chris Downton, from Children with Cancer, (pictured) said: “Every penny collected from the wishing well will be spent on giving families a holiday so we are very grateful to everyone who donated their spare coins at Christmas.” Bill Plumridge, Manager of The Beacon, said: “As always, our customers have been very generous in what they have given and their kindness is very much appreciated. Children with Cancer Fund is a fantastic local charity and does an incredible job for local families.”
