Seven new charities will be in The Beacon this week for this year’s Win A Car event that runs until Christmas Eve. Every day a different charity is selling tickets for just £1 with every penny going directly to that charity’s worthy cause. The winning ticket will be drawn on December 24 when one lucky winner will take home a brand new £7,999 Suzuki Celerio for Christmas. As well as the car, there will be an additional prize of an overnight stay in a King balcony room with dinner and breakfast at The View Hotel in Eastbourne plus 10 winners of £25 vouchers to spend in Marks & Spencer. Now in its 19th year, this annual event has raised over £328,000 for local charities since it was started in 2000. Eastbourne’s Deputy Mayor Councillor Kathy Ballard (pictured right) and Debbie Smith, from the Mayor’s Charities’ Committee (pictured left) were selling tickets in aid of the Mayor’s Charities earlier this week. The Beacon Manager Bill Plumridge said: “There’s still plenty of time to come along and buy a ticket for this year’s Win A Car. Every charity in the Centre is a worthwhile cause and Christmas is a fantastic time to be helping them raise money.” Charities in the Centre for the coming week are: St Wilfrid’s Hospice (Friday); Eastbourne Sea Cadet Unit (Saturday); ABC Fund (Sunday); Canine Partners (Monday); Eastbourne Responders (Tuesday); Families for Autism (Wednesday) and East Sussex Motor Neurone Disease Association (Thursday).
